Top Ten Masonry Hints
and Tips
10. Always have a clear cut plan when starting a project in
your house or yard.
9. When coming up with your plan, try to picture what the area
you are designing will look like.
8. Don't always choose the most inexpensive prices for the
material and the labor.
7. Always go to your local lumber or masonry supply yard to
look at different types of materials and to see their actual colors.
6. Pick out the colors that will complement your house and your
yard.
5. If working with interlocking pavers, always make sure that
you understand the pattern in which your pavers will be set so there
won't be any surprises upon completion.
4. In any masonry project, let efflorescence (natural salts)
work their way out of the masonry material before it is sealed. Good
rule of thumb: one year is the recommended timeframe.
3. Make sure that everyone bidding on your project puts down
what they are doing on paper so that you are comparing apples to
apples, not apples to oranges. (Again, to eliminate surprises at the
end of the project.)
2. If you are mixing mortar or concrete, always be sure that
you are using the proper amounts of sand or crushed stone, cement, and
water so that your mix will be strong enough and also be easier to
work with.
1. Always hire a professional to do the work and remember that
the cheapest way is not always the best. |
